About the Customer

With most pregnancies, people go home after their baby’s delivery. However, once in a while, a rare or an extreme situation occurs, for example a premature birth, wherein a baby may develop some birth defects alongside. According to data from the WHO, every year an estimated 15 million babies are born preterm, i.e. prior to 37 weeks of completed gestation.

Premature babies almost always require a longer hospital stay and continuous medical attention in the event of any complications that develop. For parents of children who require longer stays in the hospital, the quality of care being given matters significantly.

Parents may also need additional services like skilled nursing care, physiotherapy, lab services, and emotional counselling to help them cope with the sudden shift in their expected time of celebration. Our client has one of India’s best neonatal intensive care units (NICU), with multiple facilities operational in different neighbourhoods of Bangalore.

Their in-patient NICU facilities offer advanced technologies and trained healthcare professionals to administer specialised nursing care for the tiniest patients who are at significant risk.Their neonatal team of doctors and nurses are available round the clock to ensure the best care for the prematurely born children. And they encourage parents to participate in taking care of their premature infants, as this critical step can bring about a faster recovery and discharge from the NICU.

Business Needs

NICU work involves extensive documentation by doctors & nurses. Teams need to collate information from clinical observations , data from machines, lab and radiology for taking care of sick babies

The existing paper-based records at our client’s care facility were not standardized and difficult to access. It also resulted in prescription errors and communication gaps between the nursing staff / doctors. With that scale laid out in front of us, it was extremely important to drive automation across the clinical, financial, and operational aspects at these centres, which would allow doctors to spend a maximum amount of time on patient care. Having tried their luck with a few hospital automation software platforms earlier, our clients had a deep understanding of the limitations of most software packages and were looking for a scalable, flexible, yet cost-effective solution.
